This scene of the Frio River is a few miles north of Concan, Texas. When I was painting it, I remembered being there on a picnic with my family on a hot Sunday, probably about 1939 or 1940. I must have been about five or six years old. I remember my dad putting a Black Diamond watermelon in the river to cool it off. I can still remember my slice of that watermelon and how it tasted.
